Addiction: This journal focuses on research related to addiction, including substance use disorders, behavioral addictions, and co-occurring psychiatric disorders.
There have been several impactful studies on adult ADHD with comorbidities. However, if such behaviors were left untreated, these ADHD adults were found to be likely to exhibit risk taking behaviors and other disorders, such as:
substance use disorders, conduct disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, depression and oppositional defiant disorders.
These study also found that comorbidities were associated with greater impairment and poorer quality of life in adults with ADHD.
The article emphasizes the importance of integrated treatment that addresses both ADHD and substance use disorders in ADHD adults. Treatment includes medication and behavioral therapies.
